“The
Constitution isn’t written for a person or a situation. The Constitution is
written for the country, the nation and the future,” the Prime Minister of
Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed during the Third inclusive National
Unity Roundtable on Wednesday, May 21, in Mykolayiv.
Arseniy
Yatsenyuk welcomed endeavors of the Parliament of Ukraine directed to
preparation of the text of the Constitution, “which contains various positions”,
approval and sending to the Venice Commission: “After we receive the response
from the Venice Commission, we should continue working in the similar format we
are working now, - public dialog”.
“The
process of approval of the new Constitution must be public. If anyone of the
presidents, prime ministers, VR heads or judges considers that the Constitution
will be signed to satisfy him, I will remind an example of the previous
president – it ended badly,” he emphasized.
Moreover,
the Head of Government highlighted significance of the presidential elections
due on May 25: “We must hold the elections. Ukraine must receive legitimate
President”.
Arseniy
Yatsenyuk welcomed the fact that in the approved by the Parliament on May 20
Memorandum of understanding and peace “all the political forces urged to hold
the presidential elections in order to receive legitimately elected Head of
State”.
