Ukraine's Government sets up a committee to impose sectoral and personal sanctions on Russia

The Government of Ukraine set up a committee to impose sanctions on the Russian Federation. Ukrainian PM Arseniy Yatsenyuk has ordered within ten days to submit for consideration by the Government a list of personal and sectoral sanctions against Russian entities and individuals supporting terrorism in Ukraine, the PM stated at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, on Wednesday, July 23.

He reported that the Committee would include the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Ministry of Justice, Economic Development and Trade Ministry, economic and financial unit of the Government, as well as law enforcement and security forces.

"Ukraine will impose sanctions with respect to each individual who has a passport of the Russian Federation and supports terrorists and separatists in Ukraine - whether directly or indirectly," emphasized Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

"The committee shall introduce a list of all companies, which are residents of the Russian Federation and that directly or indirectly finance terrorism and banditry in Ukraine, which supported the annexation of the Crimea, both financially and through the administrative levers of influence used by respective persons vested with powers", he reported.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk explained that these are personal sanctions against individuals, "including officials of the Russian Federation involved in the infringement of the territorial integrity and independence of the Ukrainian state, terrorism and its financing and support as well as creating illegal armed formations on the territory of Ukraine."

Moreover, we are talking about sectoral sanctions against "specific companies and entities of public law that directly or indirectly supported gangsters and terrorists, providing them with the financial and economic assistance."

"The supply of weapons from the Russian Federation on the territory of Ukraine, weapons, which kill Ukrainians, which likely shot down the Malaysian Airlines plane, it’s a separate issue”, stressed Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

He ordered the committee to submit within ten days for consideration by the Government a list of personal and sectoral sanctions against Russian entities and individualswho support and finance terrorism in Ukraine and encroach on the territorial integrity and independence of the Ukrainian state”.
