The Government is preparing for any scenarios during the heating season, because today the issues of gas and coal for Ukraine are political, not economic ones, Vice Prime Minister - Minister of Regional Development, Construction, Housing and Utilities Volodymyr Groysman stated following the meeting of the Government's energy crisis headquarters.

Citing data from the Ministry of Coal Industry, Volodymyr Groysman has informed that the agency continues to fulfill contracts for the coal supply. However, in order to have a clear view of the situation in the energy sector, the Vice Prime Minister set a task the Ministry of Coal Industry to prepare a schedule of the coal supply, electricity generation by the end of 2014 and to avert any disruptions.

"As for gas, for the first decade of October, we were reported by NJSC Naftogaz that consumption is within a fixed limit, it is clear that this is due to the weather conditions. Today I have directed that, first and foremost, gas must be provided for population and social sphere ", Volodymyr Groysman said.

The Vice Prime Minister focused on the importance of adhering to the established limits of gas consumption by all the regions, as it affects the stability of the passing of the heating season.

Volodymyr Groysman has informed that Ukraine together with American and Canadian partners is elaborating a plan aimed at responding to different scenarios for the heating period in the country, including one in which Ukraine won’t further receive a single drop of imported gas or it [Ukraine] will have other shortage that may occur in the energy sector", the official noted.

He has said that technically Ukraine was ready for the heating season as planned, as of October 1, 2014. The Regional Development Ministry has checked 17 regions for their readiness for winter and confirmed a hundred percent technical readiness for the heating season.

If there are adverse weather conditions, the heating season will be launched in those regions where such weather conditions will require the switching on of the heating,” Volodymyr Groysman said.
