Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk, at a session of the
Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine on Tuesday, February 10, appealed to the
parliamentary coalition to support the nomination of Viktor Shokin
by the President of Ukraine to the post of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine ".
Before voting for the
relevant decision the Prime Minister stressed that both Prosecutor General and
the Ukrainian authorities lacked time to delay in establishing order, "In
case they fail, including Prosecutors General, the Parliament has the
constitutional power to change the respective officials, who are appointed by
the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine".
also expressed belief that the People's Front Party “would unanimously back the
proposal of the President of Ukraine to appoint as the Prosecutor General of
Ukraine Viktor Shokin".
The appointment of Victor Shokin to take office of the Prosecutor General of Ukraine was
supported by 318 MPs.
