The
Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine approved a package of bills aimed at reforming the Interior Ministry, in particular, the creation of a new National police, which, according to officials, will change an attitude of a police officer towards a citizen of Ukraine.
During an offsite
meeting of the Government at the National Academy of Internal Affairs of
Ukraine Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk said that bills on reformation of the
Interior Ministry provided clear rights and powers of a police officer: "We
are taking a big step in real reform of the former Soviet system of police and
the transition to the European Ukrainian police - in content, form
and meaning."
The PM underlined
that the proposed by the Government reform provided for enrolment to the ranks
of the National police only through competition. The National police should
consist of the Ukrainian youth who are brought up in a different way, has a
different vision, speak foreign languages, are just not of the same kidney.
He emphasized
that a new National police should demonstrate "another quality in terms of
attitude towards a citizen of Ukraine - respect, responsibility, support and
protection.
