In the framework of his working visit to Lutsk on Tuesday, July 28, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk presented state awards to the officers of a patrol special-assignment militia unit Svitiaz of the Department of Internal Affairs in Volyn region.

The "Defender of the Motherland" Medal was awarded to 14 fighters.

Among those who got the award were officers with whom Arseniy Yatsenyuk and Arsen Avakov had met in Dnipropetrovsk immediately after these men had broken out of the encirclement under Illovaisk.

The Prime Minister appealed to the soldiers: "I wish to express sincere gratitude, on behalf of the Government of Ukraine and on behalf of my family – my children, my wife, my parents - for you, having arms in hands, have prevented Russian gangsters and terrorists from advancement farther, stopped the army of a nuclear state, that had unleashed the war against Ukraine".

"You are true heroes, you are real men who are well aware what honour means, what strength means, and who showed courage. The country is proud of you", he accentuated.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized that each of the warriors would have an opportunity to further apply their knowledge, skill and courage.

He reminded that during a trip to Dnipropetrovsk he had announced the establishment of the CORD – rapid response corps: "There are special forces, which are established to combat organized crime and to respond quickly and promptly to any manifestations of offenses and crimes against the rights and freedoms of citizens".

"We believe that the participants of the anti-terror operation, such as the Svitiaz soldiers, the soldiers who are now in the ATO area and those who were demobilized, should become the basis of new special forces of the Ukrainian law enforcement system - the new Ukrainian police special forces CORD.

"The responsibility of the state is to ensure for everyone who was defending with arms in the hands the independence, territorial integrity and sovereignty of Ukraine, his/her decent place in civilian and military life. You have deserved this. And it is our responsibility to ensure each of you could feel the country needs you here. Just like the country needs you at the front," stressed the Head of Government.
