At a meeting of the State Commission on technogenic and environmental safety and emergencies on Friday, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk instructed leadership of the regional state administrations to urgently summon meetings of relevant commissions to enhance the security of forest areas. In particular, he gave an order to introduce additional control measures and terminate hunting.

The Head of Government reminded that under current legislation, the restrictions to hunt are issued by decisions of relevant local authorities, so he requested the head of the State Emergency Service to provide a complete list of areas where necessary to restrict travel of persons and accordingly to terminate hunting. "To issue this decision as a directive of the State Commission for Emergencies," urged Arseniy Yatsenyuk.

Moreover, the Prime Minister of Ukraine stressed the need to work with the citizens. "We should gather village heads and they should just explain it to the people. If they burn grass, fire can spread to a peat bog. This peat bog sets on fire – and forests burn again. So, we send planes there". Arseniy Yatsenyuk reminded that forest fires cause not only economic losses for the state, but often cause casualties.

"So, it concerns each area, my colleagues. Following the meeting of our Commission you should summon your regional commissions. You should invite mayors and heads of village councils. Work directly with people," stressed the Head of Government.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk reiterated the importance to bring to justice those who commit arsons, “including those who violate fire safety rules".

Besides, the Prime Minister commissioned the Minister of Internal Affairs to intensify control over the travel of persons along the exclusion zone.

Apart from that, the Prime Minister gave an order to Arsen Avakov, for the period of heatwave, to send for several weeks additional MIA and the National Guard forces to protect and supervise the alienation area.
