On Thursday, August 27, Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy
Yatsenyuk held a meeting with a delegation of the World Jewish Congress headed
by CEO Robert Singer.
Robert Singer spoke about the activities of the World Jewish
Congress in the field of defending global peace and dialogue between peoples
The Secretary General of the World Jewish Congress commended
the efforts of the Government of Ukraine directed to the promotion of
cooperation and understanding between various ethnic and religious groups within
the country. He noted that such a conclusion was not only a result of analyzing
the situation in Ukraine, but also his meetings with religious leaders, Jewish
activists, representatives of various social groups in Ukraine.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that the consistent struggle of
the Ukrainian Government against anti-Semitism and all forms of xenophobia,
racism and chauvinism constitute an integral part of a deep strategy of the
Ukrainian state called to promote fundamental rights and freedoms and unity of
the Ukrainian society. The Prime Minister stressed that this strategy is based
on the devotion of the citizens of Ukraine to the values of human dignity,
freedom and justice.
The parties discussed a number of issues relating to the international
relations, the problems as a result of aggression of the Russian Federation
against Ukraine, as well as issues of Jewish community in Ukraine. Peculiar
attention was paid to the preparations for the marking of the 75th anniversary
of the Babi Yar tragedy in
September of next year.
In the meeting were participating Vice-Presidents of the
World Jewish Congress Andrey Adamovsky
and Boris Fuchsmann, as well as Advisors to the Prime
Minister of Ukraine Viktor Yelensky and Yosyf Zisels.
