The only mechanism to ensure the transit of gas to the EU
and stability of gas supplies to Ukraine is a tripartite Protocol between
Ukraine, the EU and Russia and an Annex to the current deal between NJSC Naftogaz
of Ukraine and Gazprom similar to the contract signed
last year, said Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk following the
meeting with Prime Minister of the Republic of Lithuania Algirdas
Butkevičius on Friday,
The Head of Ukraine’s Government noted the meeting with Algirdas Butkevičius
concerned energy issues. Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed that Lithuania "has
passed quite a serious test of energy independence": "Both you and us have managed to reduce the influence of Russian Gazprom on our economies and our energy sectors."
Arseniy Yatsenyuk informed that the day before a Ukrainian Government
team had had a meeting with our European partners, in particular with European Commissioner
for Energy Maroš Šefčovič:
"We believe that the only mechanism to ensure gas transit to the European
Union and stability of gas supplies to Ukraine is a mechanism similar to the
one signed last year between the European Union, Ukraine and Russia".
