Prime Minister of
Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk
hopes for a very clear position of the European Commission and EU Member States
to prevent the implementation of the anti-European and anti-Ukrainian Nord
Stream-2 project. The Head of Government stated this
at the session of the Verkhovna Rada
of Ukraine on Friday, 18 September.
"The Nord
Stream-2 is a classic anti-European and anti-Ukrainian project," he
stressed.
"If Russia with
some Western companies manages to build the Nord Stream-2, it means that Russia
will achieve its goals and fully deprive Ukraine of transit services of natural
gas to the EU member states," said Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
He said that
total revenues of Ukraine under the current transit contract total $2 billion
per year.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk noted that Russia together with some Western
companies "wants to disable direct and secure cheap gas flow to the
European Union and deprive Ukraine of $2 billion."
He noted that not
only Ukraine would suffer losses. At the recent meeting with Prime
Minister of Slovakia Robert Fico, said Arseniy Yatsenyuk, "Slovakia made the same tough statement, as
the building of the second branch of the South Stream deprives Slovakia of $800
million."
"I hope for
a very clear position of our Western partners, primarily the European
Commission and member states of the European Union, to prevent the Russian
Federation from implementing a plan aimed at depriving Ukraine of transit
potential as well as billions of dollars," said the Prime Minister.
