The Government of Ukraine decided to entrust NJSC Naftogaz
Ukrainy with stopping purchases of Russian gas. The
Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk
said this at a government meeting on Wednesday, 25 November.
"They (the Russian Federation. - ed.) must have misunderstood. They
did not cut off gas supplies to us, we are the ones who are not buying it," said Arseniy Yatsenyuk.
The Prime Minister stressed that this decision was made primarily due to
the fact that "pricing offers from our European partners are much better
than those from the eastern neighbor."
pointed out that the total gas consumption in Ukraine had already reduced by
20%: "This once again confirms that the Government's program designed to
reform the country's energy sector, to implement subsidies, to establish
reasonable rates and energy efficiency is effective."
