In Brussels, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Ukraine Pavlo
Klimkin met with Vice-President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič.
The parties discussed cooperation between Ukraine and the EU
in the energy sphere and exchanged views on the state of implementation of the understandings
reached as a result the tripartite consultations on deliveries of Russian gas
to Ukraine for the winter period 2015 – 2016.
Peculiar attention was paid to the reforming the gas sector
of Ukraine, raising European investments for the Ukrainian gas transport system
and further increasing the reverse gas supplies to Ukraine from the territory
of the EU member states.
Pavlo Klimkin called on to preserve the solidarity of the EU
with Ukraine and emphasized in this context the importance of preventing the
construction of new gas pipelines bypassing Ukraine, those based on political
grounds and non-compliant with the EU legislation.
The Vice-President of the European Commission reaffirmed the
readiness to prolong cooperation with Ukraine as a reliable country to deliver
gas to Europe and noted that bringing Ukrainian energy sector in line with the
Third Energy Package provides additional opportunities for that.
