The role of the Antimonopoly Committee of
Ukraine should be intensified aimed at
overcoming monopolies that pose a threat to macroeconomic
stability and national security of the country. Prime Minister of Ukraine
Volodymyr Groysman announced during An Hour of Questions to the
Government at the Verkhovna Rada on Friday, May 20.
"We should
strengthen the functions of the Antimonopoly Committee
in all matters – whether it is
prices, the monopolies or other things", said Volodymyr
Groysman.
"The issue
of monopolies is a matter of national security and macroeconomic stability. Unless
we put things in order with monopolies and with various
preferences, we will have difficult time.
Therefore, now this issue is very important,"
he said.
Answering the question about the possible
deal-making between the filling stations in Ukraine and
unjustified hikes in fuel prices, Volodymyr
Groysman informed that the previous
Tuesday First Vice Prime Minister Stepan
Kubiv had sent
to the Antimonopoly Committee an appeal regarding the
verification of this issue.
"We also view
that such synchronous activities might be the signs
of collusion regarding the regulation of these prices. In a
strange way it happens almost synchronously in some petrol
stations ", said the Head of Government.
The Prime Minister announced that next
week he would hold a working meeting with the
leadership of the Antimonopoly Committee to discuss possible legal tools
to respond rapidly to such cases.
