The challenges faced by the European Union and Ukraine have
common roots and require consolidation of the western world for the sake of
defending European values, international law and respect to sovereignty of
other nations. This was stated by Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman
during a plenary panel of the Forum "Can Central Europe Speak with One
Voice?" at the 26-th Economic Forum in Krynica Zdrój with the participation of heads of
government of Ukraine and countries of the Visegrad Group
on Tuesday.
"The trials
that the European Union and Ukraine have these days need consolidation of the western
community, as today Ukraine is fighting for European values, for the inviolability
of international law, respect to the sovereignty of other nations and the right
to self-determination, which are fundamental for the present and future,
including the European Union", said Volodymyr Groysman.
The Prime
Minister drew attention to the fact that Ukraine had chosen and been fighting
for its path throughout 25 years of its independence: "In a time when the state
was following the wrong way, in a time when people felt that there was a threat
of dictatorship, there was a real threat and the neglect of their rights and dignity,
the people came out and said: "No. We are Europeans,
we want to join the united European family."
In 2014,
many Ukrainians paid with their lives for the right to live in a free,
democratic, unitary, sovereign country, said Volodymyr Groysman.
However, an
Eastern neighbor neglects the right of Ukraine for European integration and
does utmost to prevent it following along this path. "But we will overcome
it. We will make the way that will turn Ukraine stronger", emphasized the
Head of Government.
According
to him, the European integration choice of the country remains unchanged
despite the challenges the European Union is facing.
"I have
the utmost faith that the challenges, events and threats that exist today will to
a large extent make the European Union stronger and more powerful", he urged.
Volodymyr
Groysman assured that the Ukrainians and him personally were worried about the
EU.
"We strongly
believe that Europe will overcome the current challenges, while Ukraine will be
a strong partner, and a member of the European Union in the future",
summed up the Prime Minister.
