The completion of
the construction of the National Museum “Holodomor Victims
Memorial” in Kyiv is a matter of honor for us and a testimony to the
restoration of historical justice for millions of innocent victims. Prime Minister
of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman
was quoted as saying while
visiting the Museum and getting familiarized with the project of the second
stage of construction of the Memorial on the eve of the anniversary of the Holodomor of 1932-33.
According to the
plans of architects, it will be "hidden" in the Dnipro
slope, which is now being fortified, thereby providing an opportunity not to change
the landscape and to preserve the idea of the museum - as candles of memory. The project has been approved by UNESCO.
Speaking about funding
the work, Volodymyr Groysman
expressed resoluteness to come up with a proposal to allocate 50% of the
required sum from the State Budget. "Besides,
I shall appeal to Ukrainian citizens from all over the world, to the heads of
regions and municipalities with a call to contribute to this project," the
Head of Government stressed. "This is a matter of honor, and within 24
months we will complete the Museum."
The Prime
Minister highlighted that history and truth should unite people. "Millions
of people, children died of famine! We are only now starting to realize the scope
of the tragedy," emphasized Volodymyr Groysman. "We will resume the search and restore
historical justice for ourselves and for future generations."
