Georgia uphold the principles of strategic partnership and stand ready to
deepen bilateral ties, develop shared opportunities and jointly conquer new
Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman
said during a meeting with Irakli Kobakhidze,
Speaker of the Parliament of Georgia.
"I want to
thank Georgia for the steadfast support of Ukraine. This is a major priority for us. We
have every reason to deepen cooperation, in particular in the economy,"
said Volodymyr Groysman.
He drew attention
to the fact that commodity turnover between the states is constantly growing
and is currently estimated at dozens of millions of dollars. Great
potential is attributed to joint international projects, namely The New Silk
Road, aimed at the development of logistics capabilities of the two countries.
In turn, Irakli Kobakhidze noted that the
common goal of our states is integration into the NATO and the EU. "We
are also interested in collaboration with China and the possibility to increase
joint transit opportunities. All
the abovementioned issues is
the basis to enhance our bilateral relations," stressed the Speaker of the
Parliament of Georgia.
The officials of
the two countries agreed that the protection of territorial integrity and
political stability are a key value for both countries. That
is why the coordination of efforts within the UN, the Council of Europe, the
OSCE, GUAM and at the inter-parliamentary level is an
important element of friendship and cooperation.
Ukraine ranks 5th
among Georgia's trade partners. The
volume of Ukrainian exports to Georgia for 9 months of 2017 amounted to USD 296.8 million (growth rate -9.4%). Key
items include tobacco and manufactured tobacco substitutes, ferrous metals,
meat and edible by-products, alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, food
products, sugar and confectionery. The
volume of Georgian imports to Ukraine over 9 months of 2017 amounted to USD 49 million. The
main import article is alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, and fertilizers.
of cooperation include the fuel and energy sector, including the development of
the Euro-Asian Oil Transport Corridor project, agrarian sector, transport, in
particular in the freight transport segment, health care, tourism, and
development of small and medium-sized enterprises.
