Ukraine and the European Union intensify industrial dialogue - outcomes of the meeting of Prime Minister of Ukraine and European Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs

Ukraine and the European Union are stepping up the industrial dialogue aimed to accelerate economic growth in Ukraine and to create opportunities for engagement of Ukrainian enterprises in European value added chains and a pan-European industrial strategy. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman said during a meeting with EU Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs Elżbieta Bieńkowska.

"Today's meeting is of paramount importance. The commitment my Government has assumed is to ensure sustainable economic growth. The industrial potential is wide and varied. We are working to remove barriers to development and get new incentives to move on in each particular sector", stressed Volodymyr Groysman.

"We see the progress of reforms, we see how much effort you put out to bring about change. I believe we are able to discuss the possibilities of different sectors of the economy, and we are talking about Ukraine becoming part of our overall industrial strategy. We are talking not just about support, but about the details and specific emphases of our industrial dialogue", accentuated the Commissioner.

The Head of Government briefed the Commissioner Elżbieta Bieńkowska about the agenda of the Government, the priorities in its activities, among which are the strengthening of institutional protection of business, facilitating conditions for making business, improving the performance in the World Bank Doing Business ranking, completing the formation of an anti-corruption vertical, and continuing decentralization.

"We have embarked on the immense development of infrastructure, road networks, engaged in discussing of concession opportunities", said Volodymyr Groysman. "Our challenge is economic growth of 5-7%. We will speed up the dynamics of our activities."

For her part, the European Commissioner emphasized that Ukraine actually has a great potential for development, especially in the industrial sphere, in the agribusiness. "That is why we express readiness to help to uncover this potential - first of all, in terms of regulatory decisions", said Ms Elżbieta Bieńkowska. "We believe in free trade (with Ukraine), in a free market, we will be consistent the WTO policies and a free trade policy."

During the talks, the parties also discussed cooperation with international financial institutions and the issues of macro-financial support for Ukraine by the EU.

"Ukraine already demonstrates better performance in many positions today. Actually, Ukraine is an example for Europe in the context of state reconstruction. You have to be proud of what you have done on the path of reforms. And we should strengthen ties between our enterprises and within the framework of industrial clusters", said the Commissioner.


Among the goals of the visit of the EU Commissioner for Internal Market, Industry, Entrepreneurship and SMEs Elżbieta Bieńkowska is to intensify the EU-Ukraine High Level Dialogue on crosscutting issues and particular sectors of industry.

A high level dialogue, launched in March 2017, should help resolve industrial problems, increase trust between entrepreneurs, attract Ukrainian enterprises to international value added chains, and promote innovation development.

The industrial dialogue has become a platform for exchange of information and best practices on ways to modernize and restructure the Ukrainian industry, as well as to improve the framework conditions for enterprises, in particular in the segment of small and medium-sized businesses.

And now the parties are planning to approve the Roadmap of the EU-Ukraine Dialogue as an additional tool for enhancement of cooperation.
