The Ukrainian Government shall submit to the Parliament a bill on the abolition of a non-alignment status of Ukraine and resumption of the policy to achieve NATO membership. This was stated by the Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at the Government meeting on Friday, August 29.

He has reminded that on 28 August the National Security and Defence Council was summoned by the President of Ukraine: "Pursuant to the decision of the NSDC the Government of Ukraine submits to the Parliament a draft law called to abolish a non-alignment status of the Ukrainian state and resume the policy towards Ukrainian membership in NATO."

The draft law contains, according to Arseniy Yatsenyuk, that "the principal and the sole objective of Ukraine's foreign policy is the acquiring of the European Union’s membership".

"The mentioned law prohibits the Ukrainian state to take any decision concerning membership in any other economic, political or military alliances, the one which contradicts the principal goal of Ukraine's membership in the European Union", - stressed the Head of Government.

After this law is adopted, he explained, Ukraine will be banned membership in the Customs or Eurasian, and other various kinds of so-called unions, which in essence is nothing other than the Soviet Union on behalf of the Russian Federation".

Arseniy Yatsenyuk appealed to the President of Ukraine to determine this bill as urgent, as it had been decided during a meeting of the National Security and Defence Council, and to the Parliament of Ukraine - to immediately consider this bill.
