"We've received a fragile truce. Every day without killing of Ukrainian soldiers and shooting and every saved human life is a testimony that everything is being done to deescalate the situation in Donbas," Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk underlined at a briefing following the meeting with German Chancellor Angela Merkel in Berlin on Friday, October 23.

The Prime Minister noted the personal efforts of the Federal Chancellor in the process.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed the need to implement all the points of the Minsk agreements by the Russian Federation. "The Minsk deal isn’t a menu," he added.

He pointed out that the Russian military aggression in Crimea, in Donetsk and Luhansk regions created a very serious challenge for the Ukrainian society: "The half and a million people have fled the territories where Russian soldiers appeared. We as the Ukrainian Government have to provide them with social assistance, to find a place of residence and place of work and to integrate them into society".

The Prime Minister has emphasized that he highly appreciates the position of the German Government and personally the Federal Chancellor concerning the technical support for Ukraine. He recalled that Germany had provided houses for temporary residence of people who were forced to leave their homes.

Europe is also facing the same challenge, he underlined: "Due to the military conflict, people are fleeing from war and need help. And thus we must learn to give a joint response to this challenge regardless of how difficult it could be. The answer lies in the values, Christian care and concern for the good of each person."

For this purpose, the Head of Government stressed, political will is needed: "The German Government has such political will, - to help Ukraine in order to provide Ukrainian internally displaced persons both with accommodation and social standards. And the entire European Union shall have such political will."
