The Government of Ukraine has done it utmost to attract investors from the EU and the US in the modernization of the Ukrainian gas transportation system, "Now we expect not only economic but also political decisions from our Western partners. All the conditions for this have been created," Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk emphasized during the Government’s report on its first 100 days on Thursday, March 12.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk has reminded that Ukraine's Parliament passed a law on the modernization and operation of the Ukrainian gas transportation system. The Prime Minister appealed to Western partners: "You can be among shareholders of the Ukrainian gas transportation system."

"The country can defend itself not only by using military force but also by foreign assets, which are located in the state. And we can together create a new energy map of Europe," he stressed.

The Prime Minister called the energy reform a key one.

He highlighted that within this reform we should purchase the maximum possible amount of gas from the member states of the European Union, and complete the division of Naftogaz Ukrainy into three companies by the end of 2015.

In addition, the Prime Minister has stressed the need to "pump gas only during the lowest prices" and noted that this period begins "just in a month."

Arseniy Yatsenyuk asked Minister of Energy and Coal Industry of Ukraine Volodymyr Demchyshyn during a press conference on the Ministry’s first 100 days to clarify the situation regarding gas pricing, "If we did not have gas of own production, the tariff would amount UAH10000, not UAH3600 as we have now within social norms."

The Prime Minister also appealed with request to Volodymyr Demchyshyn to throw light on the issue of reforming NJSC Naftogaz Ukrainy, "how will we increase production of our own gas and diversify sources of energy."
