Law enforcement and defense agencies are seeking additional funding worth UAH17 billion, out of which 8.5 billion requested by the Defence Ministry. This was announced by Prime Minister Arseniy Yatsenyuk at a meeting of the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine on Wednesday, June 17.

"We had yesterday a meeting with the Ministry of Defence and law enforcement agencies. Just the Ministry of Defence has sought additional UAH8.5 billion by the end of this year," he said.

Arseniy Yatsenyuk has underlined that the MoD requires these additional funds for the fight against Russian military aggression, "To make the Ukrainian Armed Forces be prepared, including for the winter period, and make the Ukrainian Armed Forces outnumber and exceed the quality of Russian terrorists and those Russian mercenaries that are now in Ukraine due to Russian military aggression against Ukraine."

The Prime Minister has appealed to the Finance Minister to set up a working group with the participation of all the ministries and MPs: "Let’s see if we are really able to find additional sources of revenue or reduce expenses on other items to finance the Defense Ministry and to finance the Ukrainian army."

"I want together with MPs to conduct this discussion publicly in order to show our revenues, our additional expenses and eliminate all pre-electoral idle chatter. First and foremost Ukraine should finance national security and defense," Arseniy Yatsenyuk stressed.
