"I hope
members of the Parliament and the Ukrainian judicial system will demonstrate
complete understanding regarding the need to carry out legal procedures to
execute forfeiture of assets accumulated during the regime of Viktor
Yanukovych. The sum worth 40 billion hryvnias is what
should be confiscated and should replenish the state budget of Ukraine in
2016," stressed Prime Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk at a CMU
session on Wednesday, 2 December.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk
reminded that back in 2014, due to the activity of a governmental body
responsible for combating money laundering, there had been arrested assets
worth US$ 1.5 billion, "on accounts of Yanukovych and his team". The
Prime Minister reminded that he had appealed to the Prosecutor's office and the
entire law enforcement system to ensure these funds confiscated.
He appealed to
the Ukrainian Parliament to adopt an additional law providing an opportunity to
carry out the procedure of confiscation.
Moreover, Arseniy
Yatsenyuk urged law enforcement bodies and the judicial system "to deliver
an appropriate judgment that will enable us to obtain additional 40 billion hryvnias into the state budget".
"The
Government's stance is the sum worth 40 billion hryvnias
should be forfeited following all necessary legal procedures and be transferred
into a special fund. This special Fund shall be used to solve both the national
security and defense issues and cover other needed expenses", stressed the
Head of Government.
