At the Government meeting on Wednesday, March 30, Prime
Minister of Ukraine Arseniy Yatsenyuk instructed the Ministry of Ecology
together with other concerned agencies to hold talks and discuss the use of part
of the remaining funds allotted to Ukraine under the Kyoto Protocol, for the
purchase of hybrid vehicles for the National police.
"These hybrid cars consume little gasoline, produce less
emissions, but do a lot of work to ensure the safety of citizens of Ukraine and
the reforming of the National police," added the Head of Government.
Minister of Internal Affairs of Ukraine Arsen Avakov emphasized that it
concerns the purchase of hybrid Toyota Prius
and Toyota RAV-4 electric vehicles. The Minister noted
that it would allow to cover
the needs while reforming the National police
if we bought these vehicles.
Arseniy Yatsenyuk also reminded that in
the framework of the international programme
there had been upgraded five trains for the Kyiv
subway. He noted that these funds had already been spent into
the city, but now Kyiv appealed for additional financing
for these purposes.
The Prime Minister offered
to hold talks on the possibility to divide the remaining
funds under the Kyoto Protocol into two separate
tranches: the first, 70% - to upgrade the car fleet of the National
police, and the second tranche of funds - 30% for the modernization
of the Kyiv subway.
