The task of the authorities, the public sphere and the society is to facilitate the obtaining of complete energy independence of Ukraine. Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman announced this in his opening statement at the Second Forum of the Energy Efficient Partnership: investments in energy efficiency public sector and benefits for residential buildings" on Thursday, May 12.

"Our task is to become fully energy independent state. We have enough of our resources, enough of our capabilities, which will allow us to be absolutely independent, develop alternative energy, do a lot of things to replace traditional energy sources. I believe that we will do so in the medium term, "said Volodymyr Groysman.

The Prime Minister noted the lack of effectiveness of the use of available resources in Ukraine. In particular, according to him, Ukraine is six times lower than Poland in terms of energy efficiency. "This means that we have a very broad range for action," he pointed out.

The Prime Minister reminded that the Government's decision made on the eve to introduce a single gas price instead of contracts will allow Ukraine to combat corruption in the supply of gas, increase its own gas production and help reach energy independence of the country. "Those right steps being taken by the Government, honest steps, on the one hand, will protect those in need of social protection, on the other hand, will ensure our [energy] independence," stated Volodymyr Groysman.

The Prime Minister noted that in 2014 the Government had begun the introduction of new mechanisms for energy efficiency. Moreover, the Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine jointly with the State Agency for Energy Efficiency and Energy Saving of Ukraine, relevant Ministries, the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine, as well as experts and international partners began forming the basis of national legislation "that makes it possible to introduce entirely new mechanisms that will enable Ukraine to become energy independent."

Volodymyr Groysman also assured that the Government is committed to the idea of achieving energy efficiency in the country. "The Government of Ukraine and I as Prime Minister will be reliable partners in the implementation of these tasks," he said.
