The Government and the Prime Minister are committed to further pursue the policy of delegating greater authority to local self-government bodies and strengthening their role. Volodymyr Groysman said in his opening statement at the Cabinet’s session on Wednesday.

"I want to emphasize and assure all local authorities that the policy to promote local governance and power decentralization will be further implemented by the Government and by me personally as Prime Minister", accentuated the Head of Government.

The Prime Minister noted that during the recent VR session there had failed to be adopted a series of decentralization bills: "I regret that yesterday some political forces were at fault as they didn’t support a number of important laws on local governance" and thus these political forces demonstrated their authoritarianism and the desire to destroy the local governance reform in Ukraine. However, there is a majority of MPs in Parliament, who advocate the principles of local governance.

The Prime Minister highlighted that local governance reform is a key reform of the country. He reminded he had assumed office of the Prime Minister in 2014 to implement the power decentralization reform that proved its efficiency.

"The competencies are devolved, many of them have been transferred, financial resource has been devolved as well. Now we need greater responsibility on the local level and the accountability of local authorities directly to their citizens who reside on the particular territory, and accordingly, to the state," he urged.

"We must proceed. It is vital not to stop," said Volodymyr Groysman.
