Ukraine and Moldova have enhanced work on implementation of the Roadmap of cooperation between the two states in 2017 and will shortly agree on a series of issues, primarily in the economy sector - by the end of the year. Appropriate agreements were reached during a meeting between Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman and Prime Minister of Moldova Pavel Filip. The meeting was held in Chișinău in the frames of the working visit of the Head of Government of Ukraine to Moldova. This is the first visit of the Prime Minister of Ukraine to Moldova in the past 16 years.

“A stable political situation in Moldova and preserving the course of Chisinau towards European integration poses great interest for Ukraine. Successful realization of our joint civilizational choice shall facilitate the stability and security in the region, the effectiveness of our cooperation and the prosperity and development of our peoples”, Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr Groysman noted during the talks. “We also appreciate the restoration of the work of the Intergovernmental Commission on trade and economic cooperation and the steady improvement of trade turnover."

During the negotiations, the parties discussed several aspects of cooperation, in particular, the issue of completing demarcation of the border and recognizing the ownership of the objects, as well as the functioning of the Dniester waterworks facility. The Head of Government of Ukraine stressed that the increase of capacities of the Dniester HPP is a key component of the energy security of both countries. That is why Ukraine and Moldova should resolve all issues as soon as possible, agree and sign an important document - an Agreement on ensuring the functioning of the Dniester Integrated Hydraulic Station.

Particular attention was paid to environmental projects, namely, the monitoring and evaluation of water resource quality. In this context, the parties agreed on the establishment of an Intergovernmental Commission within the scope of the implementation of the Intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation in protection and sustainable development of the Dniester basin.

During the visit, the Roadmap of Ukraine – Moldova cooperation for 2018 was signed. It covers the whole range of issues. "The agenda is rather intense, and we are ready to work to yield the result," said Volodymyr Groysman.

Representatives of ministries and departments signed a number of important bilateral documents, in particular, the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on the readmission of persons and the Implementation Protocol on the procedure for its implementation, as well as the Agreement between the Cabinet of Ministers of Ukraine and the Government of the Republic of Moldova on joint control of persons, goods and items in joint checkpoints at the Ukrainian-Moldovan state border.

The Readmission Agreement and its Implementation Protocol stipulate for the speedy and effective procedures for the identification and safe and organized return of persons who are illegally staying in the territories of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova.

The agreement on joint control at the border is part of the Action Plan for the organization of joint operational security of the state border with the EU member states - the Republic of Poland, the Slovak Republic, Romania, Hungary, as well as with the Republic of Moldova.

On the outcomes of the negotiations, the parties noted that essential problem issues that existed in relations between the two states had actually been removed. The following objective is to build structural integration, provide high-quality communication on highways, bridges, continue the development of rail transport, air transportation.

"We have determined a number of objectives that contribute to our countries’ rapprochement," underscored Prime Minister Volodymyr Groysman.
