By increasing the
domestic gas output in the amount of at least 1 billion cubic meters of fuel
per annum will allow the mining industry in the medium term to refuse any
imports and trigger growth. The Prime Minister of Ukraine Volodymyr
Groysman said during A Question Time for the
Government at the Verkhovna Rada.
He emphasized
that Ukraine enters top countries ranking for natural gas reserves on the
continent. But over the years, country’s leaders used to travel to Moscow and
"exchange gas supplies for independence", and, in the meantime, the
domestic gas extraction industry saw the decline.
"Today the energy
security is critically important", said Volodymyr
Groysman, "We are discussing and creating
conditions to ensure the volumes of gas extraction grow - not less than 1
billion a year. This will guarantee independence from any import".
